One of three Florida State University students wounded when a gunman opened fire in a school library last week has been paralyzed from the waist down, his sister said Monday. One of the bullets fired by Myron May in FSU’s Strozier Library Thursday hit Farhan "Ronny" Ahmed in the spine, said Farhana Ahmed at a news conference at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare on Monday. "Despite his injuries, he’s alive, and we’re so grateful he’s still here with us," she said.
Farhan Ahmed, 21, hopes to continue studying to become a bio-medical engineer, his sister said. Florida State University's president, John Thrasher, said Monday the school is "100 percent committed to do everything we can to fulfill Ronnie’s dream of graduating."
May, a 31-year-old FSU alumnus and attorney, was fatally shot by police who responded to the attack. Investigators said that May’s diary "expressed fears of being targeted" and that he was in "a state of crisis."
University students Elijah Velez, 18, and Nathan Scott, 30, were also injured in the shooting, according to a statement from the Tallahassee Police Department. Velez suffered a “grazing wound” and was treated at the scene, police said, and Scott was released from Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare on Friday, according to the hospital.
