Two women and a man were shot dead in a home in eastern Tennessee on Saturday evening, according to the local sheriff's office. A child in the home was also shot and injured.

"Officers found two adult females inside the home with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene," the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. "A male victim was also found to be suffering from gunshot wounds. He was airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center where he later died."

Sheriff Wayne Anderson told local TV station WCYB that the suspected attacker appeared to be related to the family living in the home.

The wounded child was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The shooting occurred in Sullivan County, some 100 miles northeast of Knoxville, Tenn.

The alleged gunman was found a "short time later" and taken into custody, the statement added. The suspect had been shot as well but his injuries were not life-threatening.

"We don't really know what all happened except a white male worked his way up here," Anderson told WCYB. "Apparently he's a family member but I'm not sure what relationship he is. He made it up here where they live in their house, went in with a long-gun, I can't say specifically what it is right now, but he went in with a long-gun, and he just started shooting everybody."
