A Florida man who allegedly hurled an alligator through a Wendy's drive-thru window has been taken into custody, records showed.

Joshua James, 23, faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft, and unlawful possession of an alligator, according to Palm Beach County Jail records.

He allegedly threw the 3-and-a-half foot reptile through the drive-thru window after being served a large drink in Loxahatchee, according to an incident report from Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

James told investigators he had picked up the alligator on the side of the road and brought it to the fast-food restaurant, according to the incident report. The alligator was later released into a canal, according to NBC affiliate WPTV reported.

While the incident took place in October, James was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals this week, WPTV reported. Palm Beach County jail records show that a man with the same name and birthday was booked on Monday.
