Authorities in Kansas City, Mo., said Thursday that they had taken into custody a suspect in connection to a string of at least a dozen linked highway shootings in the area since March 8.

At a brief evening news conference, Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte said no charges have been filed yet against the male suspect. He declined to release the suspect's name or age, adding that he will discuss the case in further detail at another news conference Friday.

Residents in the area who depend on the highway system have been on edge for more than a month.

Three people have been struck by bullets — one in the arm and two in the legs — while riding in their respective cars, police said.

As of noon Wednesday, a crime tips hotline had received more than 100 calls about the case.

Police, however, haven’t said what evidence they might have linking the 12 shootings.

Most of the victims’ vehicles were hit on their doors, specifically the passenger side, The Kansas City Star reported.
