1. Flood Danger Looms as Rain Lets Up in South Carolina

The deadly, days-long rainfall in South Carolina flooded 20 rivers and led to the breach of 18 dams. While the record-setting rain was largely over early Tuesday, the flood threat was not gone. 2. Changing Story Doesn't Absolve U.S. in Hospital Attack: MSF

The Pentagon originally said American forces were under fire when the U.S. launched airstrikes on a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Afghanistan, but "corrected" the statement to say Afghan forces asked for the airstrikes. 3. Families Cling to Hope as Search for Cargo Ship Continues

The Coast Guard resumed a search Tuesday for the El Faro, a cargo vessel that is thought to have sunk off the coast of the Bahamas in the grip of Hurricane Joaquin. The hope, family members of the crew say, is that the 33 aboard were able to abandon ship in time. Read more in NEWS.

4. Pilot Who Died on Flight Identified as Dad of Eight

American Airlines Capt. Michael Johnston died of a heart-attack mid-flight from Phoenix to Boston early Monday morning, his wife Betty Jean Johnston told NBC News. She said she and her husband parents of eight kids — ages 12 to 34. The co-pilot of Johnston's last flight landed the aircraft safely in Syracuse on Monday, and passengers were accommodated on another flight. Read more in NEWS.

5. FanDuel, DraftKings Ban Staff From Playing for Cash

Online fantasy sports giants FanDuel and DraftKings have temporarily barred employees from participating in such contests for money amid allegations that employees may have access to insider data that could allow unfair, highly profitable bets. Read more in SPORTS.
