A man was killed in an accident at a Florida mall Wednesday after a harness apparently slipped at an elevated ropes course and he fell 30 feet to the floor below, authorities said.

The incident occurred at 5:30 p.m. at Artegon Marketplace in Orlando. Police told NBC station WESH that the man, identified as Robert Belvoir, 52, had just gotten hooked up to the Sky Trail ropes course when something went horribly wrong.

"According to the employees there, they actually did hook him up, so he was still hooked on his harness, but from the little thing that it goes into, is what it came out of," Lovetta Quinn-Henry of the Orlando Police Department told the station.

Witnesses described the scene once shoppers realized what happened. "We had of couple of people in line, and all of the sudden we just heard everyone screaming in the mall," Subway employee James Walton told WESH. Artegon Marketplace called the incident a "tragic accident" in a statement on Facebook Wednesday, and that "we extend our condolences and prayers to the family."
