Police in California are looking for a "person of interest" after five people, including three kids, were found dead in a Modesto home, police said.

Modesto police discovered the bodies of two adults and three children inside the Nob Hill Court home at around 3:30 p.m., after being called to conduct a welfare check, police told NBC affiliate KCRA. Police said they are treating the deaths as homicide, but the manner of death was not released.

Police said in a statement Saturday that they are looking for looking for Martin Martinez, 30, of Modesto, who is believed to be driving a 2000 red Lincoln Navigator. The identities and ages of the victims were not released.

The killings shocked residents of the quiet neighborhood in the city of about 200,000 people. Shawna Avery, who lives a street behind where the bodies were discovered, said it was quiet all day Saturday. "This would never happen here. You would not expect this," she told the station.
