A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attempting to bring two handguns into Boston University's commencement ceremony Sunday, a university spokesman said.
The man was about to go through a security checkpoint when university police stopped him and subsequently found the two guns, according to BU spokesman Colin Riley.
Andrea Massa of Marshfield, Mass., is not a student at the school, but was at the ceremony for a relative’s graduation, Riley said.
Massa will be arraigned Monday.
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick was BU's commencement speaker. The university had increased the number of security personnel for the occasion that 20,000 graduates and visitors were expected to attend, according to BU estimates.
