A Missouri man accused of fatally shooting his 8-month-old son following an argument with his wife in St. Louis Tuesday turned himself in Wednesday, police said.

Diata Crockett, 34, turned himself in to his lawyer Wednesday morning and surrendered to police at the lawyer's office, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Authorities said Crockett was arguing with his wife and hit her with a handgun after she said she wanted a divorce. Crockett allegedly shot at her as she got out of the car with their son, Reign, in her arms at the end of a freeway exit ramp shortly at around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The bullet struck the couple’s son, police said. Crockett fled with two of the couple’s other children, aged 2 and 3, prompting an Amber alert and a scare that the kids may be in danger, police said.

The children were later found safe at a relative’s house in the suburb of Bellefontaine Neighbors, police said. The couple’s three other children were at a day care.

Crockett is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, domestic assault and other charges, the St Louis' Circuit Attorney's Office said.
