Mom Finds Passed Out, Drunk Nanny Near Crying Baby: Police

A local nanny was arrested after she allegedly passed out drunk while watching a young boy and then crashed her car after fleeing the home.

Investigators say 50-year-old Susan Porfido-Gibson of Bayville, NJ was hired through the online service Care.com to babysit a child on the 100 block of Benjamin Street in Toms River, N.J.

The mother left her child in Gibson’s care around 10 a.m. Friday. When the mother returned to her home around 1:45 p.m., she found Gibson passed out drunk on the floor while her son was crying with a soiled diaper, according to investigators.

Gibson then allegedly woke up and fled out the door of the home while stumbling and mumbling unintelligibly. An intoxicated Gibson then got into a 2009 Honda Accord and fled the scene before crashing into a fire hydrant and dislodging it from the ground, according to police.

Responding police officers say they found Gibson inside the car as well as three empty bottles of alcohol. According to investigators, her blood alcohol level was over three times the legal limit.

Gibson was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, DWI, possession of alcohol and other offenses.

She is currently being held in the Ocean County Jail in default of $50,000 bail.
