Mount Hood Rescue: Injured Climbers Airlifted Out After Fall

The climbers, a man and a woman, were injured near Hogsback, a popular route on the south side of the mountain.

Two injured climbers who fell on Oregon's Mount Hood were airlifted to safety, officials said Saturday. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said the climbers, a man and a woman, were injured near Hogsback, a popular route on the south side of the mountain.

The injured woman broke both her ankles and the man broke his leg, Deputy Ben Frazier told NBC station KGW. They were airlifted off the mountain by a National Guard helicopter and taken to a Portland hospital. A third climber who also fell was able to make it down the mountain with assistance, according to KGW. Steve Rollins with Portland Mountain Rescue told KGW a rescue team was training on the mountain and was able to immediately reach the injured climbers after they fell. The names of the climbers have not been released.
