Two men were killed when shots rang out along a Mardi Gras parade route Thursday night, according to police in New Orleans.
Multiple shots were heard about 10 p.m. as the Krewe of Muses parade was in session, authorities said. A 21-year-old victim died at the hospital Thursday night after being shot in a chest, and a 22-year-old victim died at the hospital Friday, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The suspect, John Hicks, 19, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence on a parade route, police said.
Despite the violence, the parade continued as police officers set up barriers around the crime scene, NBC station WDSU reported.
