Oklahoma police have released footage recorded on an officer's body camera of police fatally shooting a suspect on January 17.
The camera, strapped to Muskogee police Officer Chansey McMillin, captures the officer approach and begin to search a man identified as 21-year-old Terrance Walker.
"Why you shaking for? Relax," McMillin says after asking Walker if he has any weapons.
Seconds later, Walker begins to flee as McMillin gives chase. The suspect drops something on the ground and bends down to pick it up. It is unclear in the video what he drops, but police say it is a gun. When the suspect starts to run again, the officer fires five shots.
“From everything we can see in the video, the officer responded appropriately,” Muskogee police Sgt. Mike Mahan told KFOR. “This officer had a split second to make that decision. We believe he acted according to his training."
The officer has been placed on leave while the case is investigated.
In December, President Barack Obama requested $263 million in funding for police body cameras and training in the wake of the shooting death of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson in Missouri.
