An Ohio toddler drowned in a pond Friday while her mother was giving birth at a nearby hospital, according to police and a relative.

The 18-month-old, Jaylynn Adamson, was being watched by three adults at a home when she wandered into a pond on the property in Marion County, about 50 miles north of Columbus, said Marion County sheriff's Lt. Jason Dutton.

Police were called at 9:22 a.m., and responded with the Scioto Dire Department and medics, Dutton said. Police administered CPR on Jaylynn and then she was loaded into an ambulance where "they were working on her all the way to the hospital," where she was later pronounced dead, Sutton said.

Jaylynn’s mother was in labor at Marion General Hospital, where Jaylynn was transported, at the time of the incident and gave birth to a son at about 4 p.m. Friday, David Adamson, an uncle of the children's father, told The Columbus Dispatch.

Sutton said the death is under investigation.
