Authorities say a Greyhound bus and stolen car headed the wrong direction collided on a highway near Indiana's border with Ohio, killing one person and injuring at least 19 others.
Wayne County spokesman Jonathan Duke says the accident happened Sunday morning on interstate 70 near Richmond, which is about 70 miles east of Indianapolis.
Phillip Lloyd, the driver of the car, was found dead at the scene, according to Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa. The car was a stolen Ford Mustang that Lloyd was travelling the wrong way, officials said.
Officials said 19 people on the bus were injured. Most were treated for scrapes, cuts and bruises at a Richmond hospital, but a dispatcher says the bus driver had to be airlifted to the Indianapolis hospital.
Brandi Schroeder, an Indianapolis woman who drove past the accident scene, says the bus ended up off the shoulder of the highway's eastbound lane and the other vehicle lay crushed in the inbound lane.
She says the vehicle was crushed so badly that she couldn't make out its wheels.
A Greyhound spokeswoman says the bus was carrying 24 passengers and the driver. She says the bus was traveling from St. Louis to Dayton, Ohio, and ultimately to New York City.
