Officials say a man has died and six others were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation after a four-alarm building fire erupted Wednesday night in San Francisco's Mission District.
Firefighters late Wednesday were still working to contain the blaze, which is burning on 22nd Street at Mission Street, according to officials.

The blaze occurred just before 6:30 p.m. and was contained to one building, firefighters said. Emergency crews evacuated two buildings during the fire.
Smoke at one point also covered the entire west side of Potrero Hill, according to one resident.
Just after 8 p.m., NBC Bay Area's Cheryl Hurd reported firefighters were able to rescue a man from the burning building. The man's condition was unknown late Wednesday.

Meanwhile, nearly 60 displaced residents gathered late Wednesday at an evacuation center set up by the American Red Cross at a City College building at 22nd and Valencia streets.
No injuries to firefighters or police officers were reported, officials said.
