All he wanted was a junior prom to remember, so Oregon teenager Austin Moore reached out to his dream date — a Las Vegas showgirl named Mariah Rivera.

Moore, 17, contacted Rivera on Twitter on Saturday, asking her to go to the May dance with his prom group, which included three of his friends. She said yes — if he managed to get his request retweeted at least 10,000 times, NBC affiliate KGW reported.

Celebrities — ranging from comedian Kevin Hart to Robin Leach — got in on the action. Although Moore didn't reach the magic number, Rivera told the Las Vegas Sun that she still wanted to go as long as officials at Regis High School in Stayton gave the go-ahead.

"It’s definitely a first, and all good fun," Rivera told the newspaper Tuesday. "It’s very flattering, although a little embarrassing. He’s not even old enough to see our show, yet he wants a Las Vegas showgirl to go with him to the prom."

Rivera, who is married and performs in a Luxor Hotel & Casino show called "Fantasy," called the arrangement "strictly PG," apparently referring to the family-friendly movie rating. But according to KGW, the part-time model and cheerleader won't get the chance to dance the night away with Moore.

Regis High School Principal Scott Coulter told the station that prom attendees can't be older than 19.

"She is, like, 30, I guess," Moore said, "and I wasn’t really thinking about that at the time. I was throwing a shot in the dark."

In the end, he's not completely crestfallen: "I still got a girlfriend to go with," he said.
