A Portland, Ore., police officer was wounded and his K-9 partner was killed in a shootout early Tuesday morning.
The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was said to be in "very good spirits," Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson told NBC News affiliate KGW.
His K-9 partner, a German shepherd, went missing in the ensuing hunt for the shooter, and the police department launched a community search for the dog.
KGW reported the dog was found dead several hours after the arrest. He suffered a lethal gunshot wound and was found under a hedge in the neighborhood near where the shooting took place, police said.
