"We'll continue searching until suspect is caught and brought to justice," Shreveport Police spokesman Cpl. Marcus Hines told NBC News.

He said dozens of officers were involved in search, adding: "We're not going to stop looking. He will be found. It's not a question of if it's when."

The officer's identity was not immediately released. "Our request is that everyone pray for the family of the officer involved,” Hines added.

Investigators described the suspect as a dark male with a low hair cut and were following up sightings of a man spotted running in the area.
