A jury was seated Tuesday for the murder trial of a white Detroit man who shot an unarmed black woman to death on his porch last year, a case that has drawn parallels to the killing of Trayvon Martin.
The jury was picked after Judge Dana Hathaway questioned them about their views on guns, self-defense and race, according to WDIV, the NBC affiliate in Detroit.
Theodore Wafer, 54, is charged with second-degree murder in the November shooting death of Renisha McBride, 19, who showed up on his porch in the middle of the night after a car accident. Police said that she had been driving drunk, and witnesses have said she was bleeding. Wafer, who shot McBride in the face, said he felt threatened and has claimed self-defense. The trial opens Wednesday.
