Rescuers were searching early Monday for a cruise-ship passenger who went overboard near the Florida Keys, according to the Coast Guard and cruise company.

Chief Petty Officer Ryan Doss said that the Coast Guard was notified late Sunday that a male passenger on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas cruise ship had gone overboard about 20 miles off Marathon, Florida.

Doss said that a helicopter, two Canadian Coast Guard ships and a Coast Guard cutter were assisting in the search. While the cruise ship initially was helping with the search, Doss said the vessel has now continued on toward its destination.

Royal Caribbean Cruises said in a statement that security cameras showed the passenger had climbed over a railing. It added that the cruise ended early Monday in Port Everglades, Florida, as planned.
