Authorities investigating the deadly attack on Seattle Pacific University seized the personal journal of Aaron Ybarra, who is accused of opening fire with a shotgun, killing one student and wounding several others. According to the journal, which was released in a court order dated July 15, the writer's primary target was Washington State University, but it was too far away. The writer also says he decided not to attack the University of Washington or Seattle University because they represent Seattle and “I didn't want to have to attack my own city.”
The writer says he went to the SPU campus a couple of weeks before the attack and was shown around by two women. “Because they showed me around the campus without me asking them to, I will single them out of the shooting if I see them.”
The entry for June 5 says: “This is it! I can’t believe I’m finally doing this!” The entry refers to the attacks on Columbine High School and Virginia Tech, then says: “I use to feel bad for the ones who were killed, but now Eric Harris and Seung Hui Cho became my idols. And they guided me til today.”
