Five people were injured when a plane was forced to return to a Florida airport after its crew reported smoke in the cabin.
Allegiant Air Flight 864 took off heading for Hagerstown, Maryland, about 4:30 p.m. ET on Monday. The crew reported the smoke about eight minutes later and the aircraft returned to St. Pete-Clearwater International airport, the a company said in a statement.
Emergency slides were deployed so passengers could exit after plane lane landed about 5:00 p.m. “The pilot came on (and) said, ‘Evacuate, evacuate, evacuate,'” passenger Alyssa Potter told NBC affiliate WFLA.
There were 147 people on board including the flight crew. Four passengers and one flight attendant reported injuries, according to Allegiant Air.
