Store Owner's Friend Fatally Shot After Confronting Shoplifters

Investigators say victim is believed to be a friend of the shop's owner who was in town to help with the business.

Up to four suspects are being hunted after a man who tried to stop a gang of shoplifters at his friend's store was fatally shot on Sunday.

Ho Lee, 36, had confronted the group who were allegedly trying to steal from a Body Gear in Indianapolis, police told NBC station WTHR. He was shot in the head.

The victim was originally thought to be an employee but investigators later told reporters he is believed to be a friend of the shop's owner who was in town to help with the business.

Shopper Diamond Slaughter, 19, was also shot in the leg and taken to hospital but she is expected to survive, the station reported.

Police tweeted about the incident before Lee's death.

“We were able to quickly apprehend two suspects who did have clothing from the store,” Sgt. Kendale Adams told reporters Sunday afternoon. “We are looking for up to four additional suspects.”
