A man in Washington killed himself Friday after a standoff with authorities following a report of four people killed at a home near Belfair, the sheriff’s office said.
Four people and the suspect were confirmed dead after the standoff ended, the Mason County Sheriff's Office said shortly before 2 p.m. local time (5 p.m. ET).
The armed man called 911 hours earlier and reported the shooting, authorities said. "He reported that he shot people," Mason County Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling told NBC affiliate KING5.
Officers responded to the private residence tried to negotiate with the armed man before he shot himself, the sheriff’s office said.
A 12-year-old girl was found on the property but wasn't seriously hurt, authorities told KING5. Police have not identified the shooter or victims, or disclosed their relationship.
The property is outside of Belfair, a town of around 3,900 about 25 miles west of Seattle.
