A swimmer was critically injured in a shark attack off of an Oahu beach Saturday, officials said, in the second shark attack near Oahu in a little more than a week.

The 44-year-old man injured in Saturday’s attack suffered critical injuries to both his feet, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright told NBC affiliate KHNL.

The shark attack occurred at around 11:40 a.m. local time (5:40 p.m. ET) as the victim and another man were swimming from the Mokulua Islands to shore near Lanikai Beach on the island’s southeast side, KHNL reported.

On Oct. 9, a 25-year-old surfer lost a leg at the knee when a shark attacked him off northern Oahu, near a surf spot known as Leftovers.

The shark in that attack is believed to have been a 10 to 12-foot-long tiger shark, according to the state Division of Aquatic Resources.
