Two teens caught on surveillance video with pumpkins they stole from a New Mexico preschool garden have confessed, and two more are being questioned, the school said Friday. Three teens can be seen in a video, captured near Eastern New Mexico University’s Child Development Center (CDC), kicking around a pumpkin like it's a soccer ball. The school said in a statement Monday that four pumpkins — which the preschoolers had grown from seeds — had been stolen from a patch, leaving it empty. Two fifteen-year-old suspects and two 14-year-old suspects in the pumpkin pilfering will likely be charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass, according to Eastern New Mexico University Police.
“Someone stealed our pumpkins, by not saying, ‘Can I have them?’ It makes me sad,” said CDC preschooler Bryn Privett, according to a statement from the school. While the pumpkin patch was left empty and the vines were destroyed, the kids aren't pumpkin-less. Community members who found out about the vandalism have been showering the school with pumpkins, and now they have dozens.
