Two bodies were found Monday in the search for an elderly Georgia couple who disappeared last week after going to look at a car advertised on Craigslist, police said.

The vehicle of the missing couple —Elrey "Bud" Runion, 69, and his wife, June Runion, 66 — was found submerged in a body of water. Two bodies, one man and one female, were found nearby. The bodies haven’t been officially identified and the cause of death hasn't been determined, Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson said.

Authorities have been searching for the couple since their family reported that they hadn't heard from them since they left Thursday morning for southern Georgia to look at a vintage Mustang.

A suspect in the case was taken into custody earlier Monday. Ronnie Adrian "Jay" Towns turned himself in, Steverson said. Towns’ father arranged a meeting with his son and investigators, and Towns was taken into custody at that meeting.

"We were interested in who last had phone contact with the Runions, and this individual did," Steverson said, according to NBC Atlanta affiliate WXIA. "We interviewed Mr. Towns early on in the investigation and the info he provided did not corroborate with our investigation."
