A six-hour hostage standoff ended late Tuesday when police stormed a house where a burglar had taken a two-year-old boy prisoner, authorities said. Officers armed with assault rifles rescued the child and arrested the suspect without firing a single shot - instead using distraction devices and door-breach rounds, according to police in Rapid City, South Dakota. No one was injured.

Police were called at 4 p.m. local time (6 p.m. ET) to reports of a burglary but the suspect fled to a nearby house. Most of the family inside the second dwelling were able to get away but the burglar took one boy hostage, according to police. A special response team entered the building after hours of unsuccessful negotiation. Raymond Cuny, 32, is accused of second-degree kidnapping, second-degree burglary and other charges.
