The United States carried out six airstrikes Sunday and Monday near the Syrian town of Kobani, which Kurdish fighters are trying to hold against an ISIS advance.
The strikes came after the United States dropped weapons and ammunition to the Kurdish fighters. One of the strikes hit a stray bundle of supplies to keep it from falling into the wrong hands, the military said. Others hit ISIS fighter positions and a vehicle.
The United States, with the help of France and Britain, also carried out six strikes against ISIS in Iraq. The United States has mounted hundreds of strikes in Iraq in Syria since summer.
