Champion mixed martial arts fighter Jon ‘Bones’ Jones was named as a suspect in a hit-and-run accident involving a pregnant woman at a New Mexico intersection, police said.

Albuquerque police are searching for Jones after witnesses identified him as the driver that hit the woman's vehicle Sunday morning, Albuquerque Police Department Officer Simon Drobik said. Authorities say the woman is in her twenties and sustained minor injuries. A hit-and-run accident is considered a misdemeanor in New Mexico if it does not result in great bodily harm.

Attempts to contact Jones or his lawyer were unsuccessful, Drobik said. Jones, who is an Albuquerque resident, is the light heavyweight champion for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He’s currently set to defend that title against opponent Anthony Johnson in the UFC 187 event on May 23 in Las Vegas.

"We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available," the company said in a statement.
