More than 200,000 customers were still without power in southeast Michigan Sunday after violent storms swept through the Midwest, killing at least two people. Power was restored to hundreds of thousands in the region, DTE Energy said, but it could take days to reconnect everyone affected by what it called “one of the most damaging storms to hit southeast Michigan in the past century.” DTE said the majority of customers would have their power restored by Monday night, but some would have to wait until Wednesday.
Wind gusts of at least 75 mph downed 2,000 power lines. One man was electrocuted in the Detroit suburb of Warren when he got too close to a toppled power line in his backyard, according to the Warren Police Department. A Chicago-area actress, Molly Glynn died Saturday after a tree fell on her while she was riding her bike during the Friday storm, according to the Cook County Coroner's Office.
As the storms tracked Northeast, a further 30,000 customers across New Jersey lost power on Saturday evening, but it was restored for many on Sunday afternoon, according to Jersey Central Power and Light.
