Wet Christmas: Soaking Storm Is Brewing for the Holiday, Forecasters Say

Christmas Storm Threatens to Disrupt Holiday Travel 1:26

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas travel will be disrupted on the East Coast.

Just as almost 100 million Americans take to the roads and skies, forecasters are calling for rain from Maine to Florida on Christmas Eve and dangerous snow and ice in the Midwest.

It's too early to say for sure, but significant flight delays are possible at the big airports of the Northeast and at O'Hare and Midway in Chicago. Interstate 95 could be a mess, too.

The storm system could be accompanied by high winds and could knock out power in parts of the Northeast, said NBC News meteorologist Bill Karins.

This may sound familiar. A winter storm arrived just in time for Thanksgiving and dumped more than a foot of snow on the interior Northeast and parts of the mid-Atlantic.
