ROME — An autopsy was scheduled for Monday after a Florida woman was discovered strangled in her apartment in the Italian city of Florence, police said.

Ashley Olsen, 35, had bruises around her neck, prosecutor's office spokeswoman Maddalena Carosi told NBC News.

Local media reported that Olsen had been dead for several hours when she was found on a bed in the apartment in the Oltrarno district of Florence. Her body was identified by her father, according to Carosi.

The coroner's office that there was no evidence that Olsen had been sexually assaulted, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Police were paying particular attention to a security camera near the entrance to the building where she lived, according to the daily newspaper La Repubblica.

Olsen's Italian fiancé isn't a suspect at the moment, Carosi said. La Repubblica reported that he told police that he hadn't seen Olsen since three days earlier, when they had a fight.

Olsen grew up in Summer Haven, Florida, NBC station WTLV of Jacksonville, Florida, reported.

She left the United States for Italy a few years ago to be close to her father, according to ANSA.

Olsen was working in the fashion industry and also organized events in the art world.

Rowena Bernardo, a co-worker and friend in Florence, remembered Olsen as "very smart and naturally cool."
