A baby is safely back in her mother's arms after an adventure on Turkey's open waters.
Ten-month-old Melda Ilgin's inflatable raft drifted more than half a mile from the Turkish coast on Friday before she was rescued, the Turkish coast guard said.
The coast guard released video of the rescue operation, which showed Melda, clad in a tiny blue bikini, sleeping as her raft floated away from the shores of Ayvacik in western Turkey.
Turkish media, including the state-run Anadolu news agency, reported that Melda's parents had forgotten they left her in the raft and only realized what had happened when other sunbathers pointed out that the baby was headed toward the Greek island of Lesbos.
Beachgoers tried to swim to her, but couldn't reach her, reported BGN News in Turkey. The coast guard was notified, and caught Melda less than three quarters of a mile from shore.
Onlookers applauded as she was reunited with her mother.
