A security breach forced the closure of Australia’s Brisbane airport for more than an hour late Tuesday amid local media reports than a woman drove a car through a perimeter fence. The runway was closed and planes were prevented from landing or taking off after the incident, which began at 9.40 p.m. local time (8.40 a.m. ET).
The woman was treated by paramedics but the extent of her injuries was unknown, Australian broadcaster ABC reported. The Courier-Mail newspaper said the woman was 37 years old and had been arrested. Australian Federal Police said in a statement that officers “responded to a breach of the perimeter fence” but declined to give any further information. An airport spokeswoman said flights has resumed but with delays.
