British police have detained a man who got onto the roof of the Palace of Westminster, London’s most iconic building and the home of Britain’s parliament.
The 23-year-old man was taken into custody at around 5 a.m. Sunday local time, nearly eight hours after he was first seen on top of the historic building, British police said. The man was first seen on the roof of the building at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.
The man’s identity was not released. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and trespassing, and was taken to a central London police station for questioning, police said. "At this stage it is too early to ascertain the reason as to why the man was trespassing on the roof," police said in a statement. It is unclear how the man got onto the roof.
