MAINZ, Germany — An orphaned wild boar piglet has found a new family: a herd of milk cows.
"I spotted the little fellow about two weeks ago," 16-year old Jakob Kraft told NBC News from his family's farm near the German town of Goettingen. "We thought it was quite funny that the little boar was mingling among the cows on our meadow."
The piglet appears to have been adopted by the herd.
"We have seen the cows gently push the boar with their heads, I think they like him," said Kraft, who is an apprentice in electrical engineering.
The farmer's family, which lives near a forest in the state of Lower Saxony and owns 30 cows, believes that the bristly fellow is orphaned. "We have seen no other wild boar for weeks," Kraft said.
The boar has been named Johann, but Kraft said that he had not come closer than three feet to the wild animal so far.
"When we bring the herd back into the stables at the end of the month, we will see if the piglet tags along or if it goes back into the woods," he added.
