LONDON — It’s a case of champagne taste, lemonade money.
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II is looking for a live-in housekeeper to polish her palaces and “care for the historic vases and irreplaceable paintings.”
The successful applicant gets to live at Buckingham Palace and have all meals provided, according to a job advertisement published by royal officials.
However, earnings “will be adjusted” to reflect the free accommodation, it says. No salary is mentioned in the advertisement but a previous similar job at the palace was reportedly offered at about $18,000 per year.
“This is no standard housekeeping role,” the advertisement explains. “You’ll work, and live, in stunning historic settings, ensuring that they’re presented to their best for colleagues, guests and, of course, the royal family.”
It says the housekeeper will need to travel to other official royal residences around Britain and must feel “house-proud about the world’s most famous homes.”
It includes a pension.

The job is in the Master of the Household’s Department, which is responsible for official and private entertaining across all royal residences.
“Aiming for the highest standards, you’ll clean and care for interiors and items from carpets and furniture to historic vases and irreplaceable paintings,” it says.
If that doesn’t appeal, the queen is also seeking a gardener and an office assistant for Buckingham Palace and an electrician for nearby Windsor Castle.
