Dozens of Syrians ran through the streets of Aleppo Tuesday as they took part in a race through a rebel-held area of the war-torn city. The winner, Ahmad Sobhe, was given a trophy following the race in the Bustan al-Qasr neighborhood.

Syria's largest city has been devastated by two and a half years of fighting. According to Fabrice Balanche, a French university lecturer and specialist on Syria, only around one million residents remain out of Aleppo's pre-war population of 2.5 million.
