A child and an 80-year-old woman were killed Sunday morning when a four-story building in a Paris suburb collapsed following an explosion, French authorities said. Ten people were pulled from the rubble, including four who were seriously wounded. Rescue teams were still looking for more survivors.

The explosion, which took place about 7 a.m. (1 a.m. ET), is believed to have been caused by a gas leak, officials said. "We should be prudent, because there are investigations ongoing. There is no certainty," French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said at the scene. Fire department spokesman Gabriel Plus said, "We could still find living victims in the hours to come." Television images of the building, in the suburb of Rosny-Sous-Bois, showed a facade ripped off completely, exposing the interiors of the apartments inside.
