The suspect sought in the shooting of two Canadian police officers inside a casino Saturday has been found dead inside an unoccupied private residence in a rural area east of St. Albert, Alberta, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. Police said they never spoke with the suspect or fired their weapons.
Authorities identified the officers at RCMP Constable David Matthew Wynn, 42, and Auxiliary Constable Derek Walter Bond, 49. Wynn was in "grave condition" Saturday afternoon. Bond was released from the hospital Saturday evening after previously being listed in "serious but stable" condition, police said.
Police have not released the identity of the suspected shooter, but said they had tentatively identified him and were working to confirm the information.
The officers were shot inside the Apex Casino in St. Albert around 3 a.m. local time Saturday while investigating a stolen car, Assistant Commissioner Marlin Degrand said at a news conference. The casino was open for business at the time of the shooting.
