A motorist stabbed a 79-year-old man to death after their cars collided in southern England, officials said Friday.

LONDON — A motorist stabbed a 79-year-old man to death after their cars collided in southern England, officials said Friday.

A spokesman for Sussex Police told NBC News that the incident may have been a case of road rage.

The killer got out of his car following Thursday night's crash and stabbed the elderly man before driving off again.

Detective Chief Inspector Karen Mizzi said officers were "urgently" trying to track down the suspect, who was described as being aged between 30 and 40.

The stabbing occurred near the village of Findon, about 40 miles south of London. The victim died at the roadside at around 8:40 p.m. (3:40 p.m. ET), according to Sussex Police.
