KABUL, Afghanistan - At least six police officers were killed and several others injured Wednesday when a uniform-clad suicide bomber attacked Afghanistan’s interior ministry, security sources said.
The suspect detonated his bomb at the checkpoint for the ministry’s human resources building, a senior ministry source told NBC News.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack in a Twitter posting that warned of more violence ahead of Saturday's presidential elections.
The suspect is believed to have passed unchallenged through two prior checkpoints because uniformed police are not required to stop until the final barrier.
