1. Bush 41 Celebrates 90th by Skydiving
Two years ago, former President George H.W. Bush made a promise: on his 90th birthday he’d go skydiving. Today, he made good on his word. The former commander in chief tweeted Thursday morning, “It’s a wonderful day in Maine – in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump.” Hours later, he completed his eighth jump. Happy Birthday, indeed.
2. Bill Murray Crashes Engagement Shoot
First, Bill Murray crashed a bachelor party. Now, he’s taking over engagement shoots. Wedding photographer Raheel Gauba was snapping pictures in Charleston for Erick Rogers and Ashley Donald when he noticed the couple looking shocked, staring at someone behind the camera. “I thought, ‘Who the heck is bothering them?’ I turn around and it’s Bill Murray with his shirt up, belly out, tapping his belly and trying to make them laugh,” Gauba said. Then the 63-year-old star posed for a quick pic with the lovebirds before going about his business.
3. International Space Station Gets World Cup Fever
World Cup fever is spreading out of this world. Crew members on the International Space Station are getting into the games, too. In a video, U.S. astronauts Steve Swanson, Reid Wiseman and German astronaut Alexander Gerst wished the teams good luck from some 230 miles above earth. Then, they showed off their zero-gravity soccer moves.
4. World Cup Ads Out-Share Super Bowl Ads
You always hear about popular Super Bowl commercials, but this year’s World Cup ads are outpacing 2014’s crop of Super Bowl ads across social media. Marketing-technology company Unruly released data showing this year’s top 20 World Cup ads have already netted nearly 7 million shares on social media – 31.4 percent more than shares related to the top 20 ads from this year’s Super Bowl.
5. 10-Year-Old Prodigy Graduates High School
At 10-years old, Tanishq Abraham is one of the youngest students ever to graduate from high school. The Sacramento genius, who was home-schooled, met the state requirements to graduate and earned a 4.0 GPA. At the age of 4, he became one of the youngest Americans to join MENSA, the high-IQ society. And he’s already started taking college courses. Tanishq told local news station KXTV, “My ultimate goal would be science, like scientist or doctor, but also want to be president, too.”
6. Pippa Middleton Rides Across US for Charity
Pippa Middleton is gearing up for a cross-country tour of America. The sister of the Duchess of Cambridge is part of a cycling team making the 3,000-mile bike ride from Oceanside, California, to Annapolis, Maryland. Middleton and her brother, James, are participating in the Race Across America to raise funds for a charity founded for a British man who died during a descent from Everest.The race starts on Saturday.
