Employees in the Bay Area have a lot to smile about, according to a new report from career website Glassdoor. San Jose tops the list of cities with the most satisfied employees for the second year in a row, followed by San Francisco in the number two spot.
It’s not surprising, said Glassdoor community expert Scott Dobroski, because the tech sector reigns in this region.
“Silicon Valley is known for its big tech companies with great leaders, interesting work and handsome compensation and benefits packages,” he said.
The rankings are based on reviews from workers across America’s 50 largest metro areas. Glassdoor looked at several factors, including the number of employers hiring, business outlook expectations and employee satisfaction over the past 12 months.
The bottom five cities for employee satisfaction were Phoenix, Tampa, Las Vegas, Denver and Pittsburgh.
One theory: “We don’t see things like work-life balance and career opportunities spoken about as favorably in these cities,” said Dobroski.
Workers in Salt Lake City are the most optimistic, with 52 percent saying they’re hopeful that business will improve. Meanwhile, when it comes to places with the most job opportunities, New York City takes the top spot with 13,332 employers currently hiring.
