Former President Bill Clinton is hitting the road to campaign for his wife in the all-important primary state of New Hampshire.
Clinton's campaign announced Monday that the former president will make his first campaign trip of the year on January 4th, attending a pair of organizing events in Nashua and Exeter.
The announcement comes after GOP frontrunner Donald Trump released a flood of attacks against the former president, openly referencing his affair with intern Monica Lewinsky and swirling rumors of other sexual misconduct during Clinton's tenure in the White House.
Trump said on Twitter that Bill Clinton has a "terrible record of women abuse" and a "penchant for sexism."
An NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll this year found that Bill Clinton remains very popular with the general public, with 56 percent of respondents giving him a positive rating and only 26 percent rating him negatively.
While Hillary Clinton remains the overwhelming front-runner for the Democratic nomination, the race against rival Bernie Sanders is much closer in New Hampshire, which borders Sanders' home state of Vermont.
