Chris Christie is poised to announce his presidential campaign on Tuesday, June 30, in his New Jersey hometown, NBC News confirms.
Sources with knowledge of Christie’s plans tell NBC News the announcement will come “Tuesday in Livingston.” Others involved in the planning will only say “all indications are likely Tuesday with some details still being worked out.” It is expected that Christie will also visit New Hampshire as part of his rollout.
Christie made the decision personally to launch his presidential campaign from his New Jersey hometown. He was a baseball player for the Livingston Lancers, class president and a member of the graduating class of 1980.
On fundraising, sources say their process “has been going well for somebody not in the race “ and claim that Christie’s financial team has heard from Republican donors wishing to “cover their bets” as much of the GOP field is “bunched together.”
A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed that 36 percent of GOP primary voters said they can see themselves supporting Christie for president, while a majority - 55 percent – said they could not.
Christie’s gubernatorial office and his “Leadership Matters for America” PAC would not comment on the timing of his presidential campaign announcement.
