'That's on Us': Clinton Camp Explains Mishandled Health Scare, Will Release More Records

Brian Fallon, press secretary for the Clinton campaign, said Monday that the staff regrets how it managed information about Hillary Clinton’s health.

The Hillary Clinton campaign issued various mea culpas Monday, saying they regretted that it took them 90 minutes to reveal that the candidate was ailing at the 9/11 memorial — and vowed to release additional medical records to answer the nagging questions about her health this week.

"I think that in retrospect we could have handled it better in terms of providing more information more quickly,” Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell.

"We were focused on making sure to track down her doctor, making sure that she had the quickest possible access to medical attention honestly," Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook chimed-in Monday afternoon on MSNBC.

The explanation from Team Clinton came a day after the Democratic presidential candidate was forced to abruptly leave the Sept. 11 memorial service at Ground Zero in New York City after the campaign claimed she became "overheated and dehydrated."

They later revealed she has pneumonia.

Fallon said they were slow to get the word out because they focusing on getting Clinton comfortable.

“In those 90 minutes, we were putting a priority on making sure she was okay," he insisted. "I should say that as soon as she got in the vehicle, she was alert the whole time and was telling staff that she was fine She was actually making calls to aides from the car and she ended up going to her daughter Chelsea’s apartment.”

“My understanding from people who were there, I wasn’t there, is that she did not lose consciousness, she stumbled getting into the van, from the van she was calling aides and we got her to a doctor as quickly as we could," Mook said.

But the sight of Clinton unsteady on her feet was seized on by Donald Trump's supporters as fresh evidence that she is not telling the whole truth about her health.

Fallon said additional health records would soon be released and pointed out that they already have provided more health information about Clinton than the Trump campaign has about the GOP nominee.

“It is our intention that in the next couple days we’re going to be releasing additional medical information about Hillary Clinton,” Fallon said. “We’ve been in touch with her physician this morning to get those materials together. We’re going to be releasing that to further put to rest any lingering concerns about what you saw yesterday.”

Mook said on MSNBC he too regrets it took so long for them to confirm that the candidate was ailing.

"That's on us," he said. "That’s on the staff and we take responsibility for that."

But Mook did not answer when asked if campaign found out on Friday that Clinton had pneumonia.

"I’m not going to get into details about who knew her medical information," Mook said. "But she made a determination with her doctor that she would power through this, she didn’t want it to effect anything and obviously on Sunday, when she got overheated, it was clear that she needed some downtime.”

Pressed to answer the question of whether campaign staffers were told the Clinton has pneumonia, Mook tried to pivot back to Trump.

"If we’re going to talk about transparency and disclosure, Donald Trump has not released a single piece of serious information about his health,” he said. "We look forward to Donald Trump releasing his information."

Asked when Clinton will be back on the campaign trail, Mook said "if it was up to her she'd be back in the next five minutes."

"But she's going to get some rest and I think you'll see her out on the trail later this week, and same thing with the updated medical information," Mook said. "We're trying to get those out as soon as we can."

Adding to the refrain of "our bad, but.." was Hillary For American Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri, who tweeted: "We could have done better yesterday, but it is a fact that public knows more about HRC than any nominee in history."
