Ted Cruz couldn’t help but throw a couple barbs at his favorite Democratic target Saturday, a day before the Republican presidential candidate was to appear on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"You mentioned Hillary. I’m told the third Democratic debate, they are going to do it on location at Leavenworth [federal prison]," he told a small but exuberant crowd at a campaign rally before the first-ever New Hampshire Republican Grassroots Presidential Caucus at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Contoocook.

This isn't the first time Cruz has implied Clinton belongs at the Kansas prison. He made the same quip last month ahead of the first Democratic debate, and added, "If they can project a rainbow on the White House, maybe they can put bars on windows."

As supporters chanted "We choose Cruz! We choose Cruz!" and Christian rock music blasted in the background, Cruz went in for another jab, recycling an old joke he has pulled out along the campaign trail for the New England-centric crowd.

"Tom Brady was framed, and I have it on good authority that Hillary Clinton did it. Why else do you think she deleted her emails?" he asked, referring to the controversy over Clinton's use of a private email server that has dogged her campaign.

He praised the crowd Saturday as "fighters for freedom" and promised them he would win in 2016.

"America is waking up," he said.
